The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)

Image
Took the family to see The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and for me it was the most anticipated movie of the summer.  I have been a fan since I discovered them when I was in elementary school.  It was comic books that got me interested in reading, and I became a voracious reader.  Always three to four grades ahead of others in school, but it was the Fantastic Four I read voraciously.  Why was this so popular with me?  It was about a family with super powers.  Reed was Mr. Fantastic, Sue was his wife the Invisible girl, and then there was Ben who was the Thing and a friend of Reed's.  To round it out there was Johnny Sue's brother the human torch, and for a kid with an active imagination The Fantastic Four was the ultimate in superhero's.   A family fighting the bad guys who threatened the earth.  Reed the super intelligent scientist, and Sue the powerful invisible girl who could render force fields and withstand attacks from their ...

Superman (2025)

Image
Took the family to see this & it was my oldest second viewing after he saw it with his buddy and his family.  It is the most anticipated movie to come out this year.  Directed by James Gunn and a film responsible for re-launching the DC universe, so no pressure for DC at all.  Distributed by Warner Brothers " Superman " is a breath of fresh air in an superhero movies. Why you ask?  What makes this film so different then other Superman that have proceeded it?  New cast, new storyline, and it includes other heros who they call meta-humans.  No origin story here.  We all know Superman's origin, so it's not needed.  What Gunn has done is create the ultimate immigrant story in Superman.  Born on another planet but raised in Kansas by his ma & pa.  It takes the familiar feeling of the outsider really being an insider, and not much different then us.   I have to say that I was really upset seeing our hero being beaten up and ...

Jurassic World : Rebirth (2025)

Image
So the family and I decided to see the new Jurassic World: Rebirth, and a rebirth it is.  I have heard others say that the series has run its course, and it is the same thing over and over again, but I disagree.  The first film astounded us at seeing living dinosaur's & it was fantastic.  Computer technology has made it possible to create these magnificent beasts convincingly.  The technology has only gotten better and the special effects are remarkable in the movie. Having sons I have seen all of these films because what boy doesn't love dinosaurs?  But I know of no child who dislikes the films.  They think it's cool, and it crosses the spectrum of age and gender.  In the latest storyline we have two sets of characters.  One the family who were sailing and are on vacation when their boat is hit by a big prehistoric fish.  The second set of characters are trying to acquire the blood (DNA) of three large dinosaurs that they call sauropods...

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025)

Image
First off I'm a fan of the series, and say what you want about the series it does push the limits of improbability, but then it is mission IMPOSSIBLE!    The latest film is a love letter to the series then & now.  It is also a film which has several stunt set pieces that seem to be the films highlight, and I have no problem with that.   In the latest episode it is a part 2 and finally of the series.  It seems a rogue AI is out to destroy the world and there many people & organizations vying for control of the AI for their own nefarious reasons.   It falls on Ethan Hunt ( Tom Cruise ) to make sure that the AI does not succeed, and how he does this is by tricking it that he works for it.  To say the script has a few high hurdles to achieve is an understatement.  Some succeed while others seem to fall flat, but if taken for what the film is and that's pure entertainment it does work. I did enjoy it and am amazed at some of th...

Deadly Obsession (2003)

Image
My film " Deadly Obsessions " is now on YouTube.  It's for mature audiences, so you'll need to open it in your app because it's age restricted.  I figured I put a link here and see if anyone would like to see it.  It's kind of a neo-noir type film.  A lot of the criticism is that it's too talky, but I did try and do a noir type film in the present day.  It's 101 minutes, and if you have time to kill take a look.  It took 5 years to make since I was editing it on film, and I usually got money from working a day job.  Hence the length of the movies completion.  I had some great actors, and you may recognize Rebecca played by Irene Glezos whose been in a number of episodes of Law & Order.  All the actors were great and a big shout out to Karen Stanion , Michelle Verhoeven , and Nick Capous .  Without them the film would not be nearly as good as it turned out to be.  One more add would be to Laundrea Lyn Thomas whose help and dete...

Gravesend series (2020 - 2023)

Image
Gravesend season 1 premiered on April 3rd 2020 and was only 4 episodes long and each episode was about a half hour.  The series is tight and goes by quickly.  We are introduced to all the characters and the series follows our main protagonist Benny Zerletta played by actor William DeMeo who also writes and directs each episode.  DeMeo is the creator of the series to boot so a lot rests on his shoulders.  The series is quick and to the point.  DeMeo's character Benny is a soldier in a crime family that runs Gravesend a part of South Brooklyn, which runs from Avenue P to the Belt Parkway and includes from Stillwell Avenue to East 12th street.  Gravesend is consider by most a blue collar area, which has gone through many changes since the early 20th Century, and it's close proximity to Cony Island made Gravesend a popular destination to get to Coney Island, and points south.  Many times I would head the  Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station,...

Riff Raff (2025)

Image
Saw Riff Raff a few weeks ago when it opened.  Like some movies that studios release they've only limited it release in several theaters, and the theater I saw it in the film was relegated to a small theater.  It's a shame what studios are doing, and it's a BIG problem that streaming has created.  Studios feel it's not worth promoting small films unless they became run away success.  It's a shame because Riff Raff is a smart and dark comedy about an unusual family under seige by oddly and old friend.  Ed Harris is a gift and I swear that anything he is in is leveled up by his performance alone.  But the entire cast is fabulous.  Bill Murra y is hilariously funny in a dead-pan way.  What malice he brings to his character that only Bill Murray can do, and please don't get me started on Jenifer Coolidge 's performance.  She is hilarious and someone I can watch all day.  She is a gift that keeps on giving.  Now don't get me wrong this ...
