Captain Marvel (2019)

Image
I was excited to go see the latest Marvel movie for a number of reasons.  One is that I always thought Captain Marvel would make a great film.  It is especially powerful since our protagonist is a women.  The one thing the Marvel universe has skipped over was having a women superhero, and that's pretty strange since the Marvel comic universe is littered with powerful and assertive women.  From the She Hulk to Sue Storm from the Fantastic Four , to Valkyrie of the Defenders .  There have been a number of lady super hero's that have rocked the comic book world.  It was about time that Marvel make one. To be fair Marvel movies have had women in their films such as Black Widow in the Avengers , and Storm in the X-men franchise.  With the success of Wonder women from DC Marvel had to introduce one of their own women super hero's, and all I can say is about time. Brie Larson does a great job as Mar-vel a noble hero warrior from the Kree home-wor...

Iron Man 3

It's getting to be summer season, and summer movies have always been fun and roller coaster rides in a way.  I was a fan of the first two, and was interested in the third.  I also hoped that my boys would also be excited, and they were to a point.  But now after seeing it something still bothers me.  Also when I asked my boys if they liked it they said it was okay.  Right there is when I thought my vibe of the film was right.  Something was off with this one. Was it something to do with the actors?  I can't say that was the problem.  The actors were all good.  It was more the film as a whole.  The pacing in Iron Man is off, and while watching it you do feel how off they are.  Also the story is lame.  I was a comic book fan of Ironman, and I do remember a villain by the name of "The Mandarin", but I believe it was some eastern block enemy.    I won't give any spoilers here, but the enemy here was weak.  The...

The Avengers (2012)

Image
So it's been a movie waiting to be seen ever since it was announced.  My boys were eager to see it, and so a family outing to the movies was planned for Saturday.  From all the hype and all the publicity was the Avengers worth seeing?  The answer is a resounding yes.  Clocking in at 2 hours and 22 minutes the Avengers is a movie with a lot of action packed into it.  After all it's not just one superhero we're dealing with but 6, and there's a lot of story to tell.  The story is simple.  The Earth is in peril by the demi-god Loki (Thor's brother), and an alien race who has decided to help Loki take over the Earth.  With that the Avengers starts and doesn't stop until the final minutes of the movie.  The battle scenes are extrodinary, and the banter between the superheros is funny at times.  Joss Whedon the movies director does a nice balancing act of humor and action.  My boys were mesmerized by the action and enjoyed the fil...

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

I went to see the "new" Hulk movie this week-end with my son. I was one of the few who liked the first Hulk directed by Ang Lee, so going into this movie I really didn't expect much. Surprisingly the filmmakers stuck to the TV series roots more then the comic roots. I didn't hate it, and I like the nods to the old series. In one scene they show Bill Bixby in a video clip on a television, and then there is the casting of Lou Ferrigno as a security guard. There is a lot of CGI work in the movie, and I've gotten used to it. The CGI work is okay, and done with some care, but in the back of my mind I'm wondering if filmmakers are relying too much on CGI. My little boy enjoyed it, and he did say that it was a bit scary for him (he's six), so I take that into consideration if you were taking a child to go see the movie. Again I'm amazed at how the studio markets the film to kids, but yet puts it out as a PG-13 movie. Of course this is all about parents discre...

Iron Man - 2008

Image
Ever since hearing about the making of Iron Man I've been interested in what the filmmakers will do with one my favorite Marvel comics superhero. To say that I wasn't disappointed is an understatement. So it was with excitement and a little glee that I saw Iron Man today, and I wasn't disappointed. Directed by Jon Favre , the director who has brought you movies such as Made , Elf , and Zathura: A Space Adventure directed Iron Man. Favre does a great job, and gives his actors some real space to actually act. The screenplay is written by Mark Fergus , Hawk Ostby , Art Marcum and Matt Holloway who give Iron Man some very funny dialogue, and an interesting origin. Iron Man starts off with a bang, and it involves you the audience to invest in the character of Tony Stark who is played by Robert Downey Jr. Downey has fun with the character, and it shows. Downey is a top notch actor, and I hope this propels Downey into more juicer roles. I hear that he is in two other films th...
