Jurassic World : Rebirth (2025)
So the family and I decided to see the new Jurassic World: Rebirth, and a rebirth it is. I have heard others say that the series has run its course, and it is the same thing over and over again, but I disagree. The first film astounded us at seeing living dinosaur's & it was fantastic. Computer technology has made it possible to create these magnificent beasts convincingly. The technology has only gotten better and the special effects are remarkable in the movie.
Having sons I have seen all of these films because what boy doesn't love dinosaurs? But I know of no child who dislikes the films. They think it's cool, and it crosses the spectrum of age and gender. In the latest storyline we have two sets of characters. One the family who were sailing and are on vacation when their boat is hit by a big prehistoric fish. The second set of characters are trying to acquire the blood (DNA) of three large dinosaurs that they call sauropods or theropods. The reason being is that the big Pharma executive of the movie wants the DNA because they could hold the key to curing diseases modern medicine had previously deemed incurable. He is played by the actor Rupert Friend, and he is the guy you want to hate. What this movie does is have a well known enemy as in BIG Pharma, and the question that the movie poses is that this tech should be everybody's. Not monopolized by a few. The movie does that well, and it also tries to say that man is only a temporary resident on planet earth and that about 5 billion species have already died out. Not too shabby a point to make in a summer movie extravaganza and one that may resonate with the public.
Now saying that does that at all detract form the movie. Absolutely not. There are a lot of exciting sequences in the movie, and one where boys and girls will love. It has already broken box office records, and it seems to be on track to be a fun profitable summer movie.
Scarlet Johansson is wonderful in the film as well as the rest of the cast. Makes me think why no one ever cast her as Laura Croft, but I digress. Johansson does a really great job at projecting toughness, and yet her character has some depth as we are told about some unsuccessful missions she's had and some regrets. If anything the character can be a recurring character in other films if the producers want to follow that in other films.
Am I tired of the dinosaurs? No. The plot was engaging, and my family really liked it. It's pure entertainment, and I do love hearing the familiar Jurassic Park score. It brings back a certain sentimentality to the film and connects it to the other films. I have a feeling that the dinosaurs will be around for awhile and more will come, but maybe this film could be the last if the studio wanted it to be, but as of now the box office for the film may just revive this old franchise for a new generation.
So if you want some fun on a summer evening or afternoon I see no reason why not to see the latest Jurassic Park film. It's family entertainment for the whole film, and its a good fun film to watch. It's great seeing it on the big screen and seems to be really where you want to see it, so don't hesitate to see it in a theater. The sound is excellent, and there are some great shots in the film. Also it kind of brought out the little boy in me as I wondered at the sight of dinosaurs, so as summer entertainment goes it's fun. Also you'll love the little dinosaur that tags along named "Dolores". Expect the kid's to like her too. It's cute and schmaltzy and ingenious marketing. What can else can you expect from a summer movie. Enjoy the film and the popcorn! The family will have fun!
